Thank you for MDA donations
By
Nevin L. Kilmer,
Secretary/Treasurer, Martinsburg Firefighters, IAFF Local
#805
The
Martinsburg Firefighters Local #805 would like to thank all who contributed to
our Muscular Dystrophy "Fill-the Boot" drive conducted Aug. 14. With the
generous support of the community, we collected just over $3,500 towards
MDA. With the help of a donation of $1,500 from Local #805, we were proud
to turn over $5,000 to help "Jerry's Kids" battle the many diseases included
under the Muscular Dystrophy umbrella.
For 50 years,
The International Association of Firefighters has taken to the streets to join
MDA in the fight against neuromuscular diseases by participating in the
"Fill-the-Boot" drive.
Our dedicated firefighters
put their lives at risk each and every day keeping the citizens of Martinsburg
safe and are just as dedicated to MDA and raising money to one day find a cure
for neuromuscular disease. Funds raised will stay in this area to provide help
and hope to families affected by any of the 43 neuromuscular
diseases.
Because the city of Martinsburg denied our
request for use of city aparatus, we would like to thank Westphal Hose Co. #5
for the use of their restored antique fire truck as a visual display at the boot
drive. We would also like to thank the Martinsburg Mall for the use of
their property.
This could not have been successful
without the generousity of the citizens of Martinsburg and Berkeley
County. Thank you, everybody.

fantastic job!
This year marked the 50th anniversary
of the IAFF's partnership with the MDA in the battle against neuromuscular
diseases. Since 1953, the IAFF has contributed more than $200 million
through its nationwide fundraising campaigns. Firefighters across the nation are
