Captain Donald Shirley retires after 26 years on the job.  His last day was 1 January 2010.  Donald was hired 16 October 1983.  During his time working at the fire department he worked both station 1, and 5.  Donald was one of the first Paramedics in the city of Martinsburg.  He climbed the ladder of seniority over the years stopping briefly at the Lieutenants position on Red shift, then finished as Captain on Black shift.  Captain Shirley has been an asset to the Fire department and an inspiration the the members.
